Water and Erosion by Scott Weeks, Florida Engineering Society (Forest Chapter)

April 5, 2025

The last Science Saturday of this school year was about erosion. The presentation was led by civil engineers Scott Weeks and K.C. Foskey of the Florida Engineering Society. Hands-on activities centered around working in groups to build structures on various soils and to then gently pour water on them to observe the impact of erosion. Next the teams were given additional materials to build erosion control features, which they tested with a little “rainfall", more “rainfall”, and concentrated flow of water. Each team used their imaginations to create their own designs and to guide their construction efforts. Home Depot generously donated the orange buckets and plastic tubs that were used by each team during the activities.
