Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Starting Date: As soon as the applicant is available.
Description: IHMC is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to facilitate activities for a DoD-funded research program investigating the development and measurement of perceptual-cognitive expertise in shooting simulator environments, with the goal being to test and validate predictive performance tools and simulator training protocols. This program of work will require applicants to work closely with simulator technology, biosensors (e.g., eye-tracking, heart rate, thermal imaging), and any associated data that comes from onsite experiments. The applicant will work alongside Professor Mark Williams and Dr. Brady DeCouto in study planning, simulator development, data collection/analysis, and constructing reports for sponsors. This program of research will fund the applicant for an initial 2-year period, with the option for a further extension.
The applicant would join IHMC’s growing interdisciplinary team in the Health, Resilience, and Performance (HRP) research program, which conducts research on topics ranging from stress responses/adaptations in military personnel to cognitive factors associated with human-machine teaming.
Minimum Requirements

- Demonstrated evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience of undertaking research independently
- Experience collecting/analyzing data and working collaboratively with research teams
- Troubleshooting skills with technology
- Be a US citizen or be eligible for a non-resident visa (e.g., H1B) to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using biosensing technologies for research, which may include eye-tracking, neuroimaging, 3D motion capture, IMUs, electrodermal sensors, or heart rate sensors
- Programming experience (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB)
- Research background in perceptual-cognitive and motor skills associated with elite performance (those with other research backgrounds are also encouraged to apply given diverse perspectives may contribute to the aims of the research)
