Senior Research Scientist

Michael joined IHMC as a Senior Research Scientist in September 2023. He is an associate professor in the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He served as El Pomar Chairman of Engineering and Innovation at the school, and he is founder and director of MIND Studios, å creative enterprise at University of Colorado that engaged undergraduate students in completing paid projects for external clients, ranging from individual inventors to large corporations.

He earned a bachelor’s degree at Tulane University, a master’s degree at the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

His entrepreneurial experience includes serving as founder and president of Tissue Fusion LLC, which developed surgical devices to fuse biological tissue as an alternative to sutures or staples in wound closure. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an officer and mechanical engineer, U.S. Air Force.
