Android software developer

IHMC is seeking an Android software developer to assist with several projects related to distributed and agile computing and information dissemination in tactical and other challenged network environments, Internet of Things, and machine learning. The position includes an initial training phase, where the developer is introduced to the different projects and software components involved. After training, the developer is expected take on the lead of the Android portion of these projects and be responsible for architectural and design choices as well as development and testing. Therefore, the ideal candidate is somebody who can independently study new design and architectural patterns, frameworks, and libraries, discuss and highlight key benefits gained from their adoption, and outline realistic roadmaps for their integration into the final product.

Candidates should be proficient in Android programming using Java and Kotlin and have a good understanding of the Android ecosystem. Knowledge of other programming languages, including C++ (Android NDK), Javascript, and Python, is desirable, but not required. Familiarity with network programming and basic system administration tasks is also desirable. Strong candidates are comfortable with Git, Gradle, and agile software practices. Requires a Bachelors Degree.

The candidate must work well within a team of developers and researchers and be comfortable with working with multiple deadlines. The candidate should also be self-motivated and able to solve challenges without significant assistance, and should pro-actively seek to help the rest of the team reach their goals.

This is for a full-time, paid position in Pensacola, Florida. You must be authorized to work in the United States.
