Research Engineer

Jacob Hackett joined IHMC in August 2026 as a Research Engineer, working with Dr. Geoffrey Clark and Dr. Robert Griffin. His current focus is a real-time model identification framework that keeps a robot’s model accurate as it runs, improving the performance and reliability of controllers as they transfer from simulation onto physical hardware.

Jacob is completing his PhD at Florida State University, where he is a member of the Optimal Robotics Lab under Dr. Christian Hubicki, with graduation scheduled for Fall 2026.

Outside the lab, Jacob channels his creativity three ways: building small personal coding projects as an excuse to learn new programming languages, cooking and experimenting with recipes, and producing music. In his downtime he is usually with friends, playing video games, or at the beach.
