Overview

Matt Johnson has been a researcher at IHMC since 2002. He has worked on numerous projects including the Oz flight display for reducing the cognitive workload in the cockpit, the Nasa Human-Robot Teamwork project, the DARPA Augmented Cognition project for improving human performance, the DARPA Little Dog project developing walking algorithms for a quadruped robot on rough terrain and several human-robot coordination projects for both NASA and the Department of Defense. Most recently he has worked on development of the NASA humanoid based on Robonaut. He is responsible for acquiring IHMC's first robots and has been the lead on integration of robots into several IHMC projects including both NASA and Office of Naval Research unmanned systems projects. His research interests focus on improving performance in human-machine systems and include the areas of teamwork, coordination and human-robot interaction. Matt has a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, an M.S. in Computer Science and is working on his Ph.D. in Computer Science. Matt comes to IHMC after 10 years as a Naval Aviator flying both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. When not working on robots for IHMC he is a Naval Reserve Flight Instructor.
