At the Institute for Human & Machine Cognition… the best and brightest have found a place to shine.
IHMC is re-thinking the relationship between humans and machines, defining new directions in human-centered computing by linking cutting-edge research into a new alliance of artificial intelligence, psychology, robotics, philosophy, engineering and social and educational studies.
From robotic walkers to conceptual education, from the semantic web to aircraft cockpit design, from new agent architectures to natural language communication, IHMC research programs are exploring ways to enable humans and computers to work together synergistically.
Summer Internship 2012
Mechanical Design Internship
Seeking talented Summer Interns to be part of the IHMC Robotics team to design humanoid walking robots, exoskeletons, and other projects.
Requirements: Currently pursing a Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Applicant must possess strong knowledge of basic mechatronic principles, including motors, encoders, and sensors. Candidate must have experience with a parametric solid modeling software, such as SolidWorks, and performing finite element analysis within one of these CAD packages. Preferred applicant will have oriented programming experience, especially Java, and knowledge of feedback controls. Applicant must possess strong written communication skills (e.g. the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and succinctly) and must be capable of working in a tightly coupled team environment.
Immediate openings. Salary negotiable.
Email robotjobs@ihmc.us the following:
- Resume with references;
- Web link to any relevant projects you have been involved in (e.g., computer models of design, mechanical drawings, photos of projects);
- A one-page summary describing a robotics problem, how you would write a program to solve it, what would the solution be, how would you implement it, what challenges you might face, and how would you overcome them.
Summer Internship 2012
Robot Controls Internship
Seeking talented Summer Interns to be part of the IHMC Robotics team to develop software tools and techniques for controlling humanoid walking robots, exoskeletons, and other projects.
Requirements: Currently pursing a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and are interested in the dynamics and control of walking. Applicant must possess strong programming skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills (e.g. the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and succinctly) and must be capable of working in a tightly coupled team environment. Knowledge of, or a desire to learn, Java and agile programming techniques is required. Preferred applicant will have knowledge of standard control theory, robot kinematics, dynamics, and modeling.
Immediate openings. Salary negotiable.
