Research Scientist
John
Coffey started working for the Cognition Institute in 1990, while he was
a graduate student at the University of West Florida. He was the principle
programmer of NUCES (Nuclear Cardiology Expert System). He received his
MS in Computer Science/Software Engineering in April, 1992.
John successfully defended
his doctoral disssertation entitled "LEO - A Learning Environment Organizer
to Accompany Constructivist Knowledge Models" in June 2000, and he graduated
with his Ed.D degree in August 2000. His dissertation demonstrates extensions
to the method of representing a knowledge domain for which Drs. Ken Ford,
Alberto Canas and he received a software patent in 1996.
Since 1992 John has
divided his time between the Computer
Science Department at UWF where he holds an associate professor position, and the Cognition Institute. In his work for the Institute,
John generally serves as a Knowledge Engineer and occasionally gets to talk about his experiences building knowledge models and crawling through nuclear power plants.
