David Lecoutre

Research Associate

David is originally from France. He began his education in 2004 with a B.S. in computer science at the ESII (Ecole superieur d'ingenierie informatique) in Bordeaux. Then, he graduated from the University of Bordeaux II, where he received his Masters degree in Cognitive Science and Cognitive Engineering in 2007.

He joined IHMC at the beginning of 2007 as an exchange student working on the Sensory Substitution for Wounded Servicemembers project. His work at IHMC has been the basis of his Masters thesis.

After his graduation, David returned to IHMC and now works with Anil Raj, M.D. and Peter Neuhaus, M.D. as a research associate. He's currently developing a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) team-based simulator that will aid in the determination of metrics for measuring cognitive workload, activity, and arousal using physiologic recordings ( EEG... ). He's also working on the exoskeleton project (a robotic suit a person can wear for strength augmentation or walking assistance). He's working on a surgeon robot and simulation ( MIMIC ) by using a full body motion capture suit ( MEASURAND ) and a head tracking system to control the simulation. An electro tactile system on the body is used to provide feedback and increase the situation awareness.

His research interests include all areas of Human machine interface, human factor, high tech prosthesis, and cognitive science. His hobbies are Hockey, running, biking, and hiking. David is a certified SCUBA diver.
